Should you need to make a claim on your Income Protection policy we hope to make the process as smooth as possible, whilst offering you all the help and assistance we can.
Therefore it's important that should you need to make a claim, you tell us without delay as soon as you stop working, even if you are not expecting to receive benefit for another few months. This can help us to start our assessment earlier and may even benefit you as we may be able to help you return to work sooner through a number of different support approaches outside the terms of your policy. A delay in informing us could result in a delay in payment or in some cases, if the delay is excessive, refusal of a claim or part of it.
Firstly, just contact the New Claims Team, who will speak to you about your situation and the reason for your claim. They will then complete your claim form for you over the phone and send you a copy for you to sign. They will also ask you to supply any other information/evidence that they require, and may be able to offer other support lines, or groups to provide additional help. To help make this difficult time easier, you should know that all our New Claims team, receive training as counsellors. Many are fully qualified counsellors to help support you, and we can assure you all conversations and details remain confidential.

Your claim will then be assessed by your dedicated claims consultant. If necessary we may ask you to attend an Independent Medical Examination.

If your situation is appropriate our Intervention Team could help you to develop a plan to work with you to ensure you can return to work as soon as possible. This could include working with your employer to see whether they can make any changes to your job that will enable you to return to work sooner, or support to explore other options.

If your claim is eligible, once your deferred period ends the benefit payments will be made monthly, in arrears. You can rest assured that your claims consultant will be available throughout your claim, and will be in touch to check on your progress and offer support and assistance.

Once you are able to make a full return to work, your payments will stop. You should inform us should you take up any work, whether paid or unpaid during your claim.
